Fishing science fair projects can examine many different science concepts. However, the laws of attraction are going to play an important role in most angling science fair project ideas. When developing your fishing project you will want to focus on easy to manipulate variables like bait.

Biology science fair projects that focus on the sport of fishing are going to mainly deal with biological responses to bait. For example, you can develop a project that examines what visual elements of bait attract fish. For this type of project you will want to focus on a specific species of fish. You can examine how movement, color and patterns attract or repel that species of fish.

Another aspect of bait that you can modify in fishing science fair projects is their scent. While it seems strange that smell would be an important factor in attracting fish, it is actually very important. In your experiments you can examine if fish are more or less attracted by different types of scents. For example, you can use scents from rotting meat to cheese.

Color can also be used as variables in an angling science fair project. You can examine what colors are most attractive to fish or what colors are most repellant to fish. The fish that you use as your test subjects can be local fish found in wild ponds, streams and lakes, or they can be fish in an aquarium. It will be important that you research the fish species that you use as your test subject to help you narrow down which colors to experiment with and which ones to avoid.

Patterns are also going to be a good variable to expeiment with. Patterns can either be geometric in nature or they can be based on those patterns found on normal fish prey items. Again background research is going to be very valuable in the development of your experiment. It will help you to select practical patterns for your baseline experiment group.

Timing can also be used as your variable. The timing of your experiments can be based on several things. For example, you can see if the time of day impacts what a fish is attracted to and you can also determine is the time of year impacts what the fish is attracted to.
