Volleyball science fair projects can be a great way to combine your love of volleyball with science. An indoor sport science fair project on volleyball can examine everything from the body mechanics of volleyball players to how environmental factors impact a player's performance. The key to developing a great project is to focus on what you find interesting.

The first step in developing volleyball science fair projects is to focus on a specific field of science. For example, you can create biology science fair projects that look at biological variables related to volleyball. This focus will determine what your experiment is about and what type of data you will be collecting.

Step two is to find a topic to work with, such as, "does temperature affect a volleyball player's performance?" This topic question will be used by you to conduct background research. As you conduct your research you will need to narrow down your topic to a statement which predicts an outcome.

The prediction of an outcome based on your research is called the development of your hypothesis. The hypothesis needs to predict how one variable will affect another variable. For example, as temperatures dip below 70 degrees F a volleyball player's performance will decline. In this hypothesis your variables are temperature and player performance.

The next step is to develop your experiment. The experiment will need to test your hypothesis. For example, if you are testing to see if performance declines below 70 degrees F then you will want to first test player performance at 70 degrees. This will be your baseline reading. Then you will decrease the temperature and examine how player performance reacts, if at all.

Collecting data for your volleyball science fair projects is going to be based on what your hypothesis' variables. Data for the example above will be performance characteristics at various temperatures. However, before data is collected the data must be defined. For example, performance can be judged by the number of errors that occur, the number of points that are won and the number of times when each player comes into contact with the ball.
