The first step to change is recognition. Admitting what behavior you want to change is fantastice. So, instead of being ashamed, which will get you no where but more shame... how about asking yourself the question, "What can I do instead next time?" Or say to the person you are talking with, "Let's start over." The ask yourself before speaking, "What is positive about his situation"? You may even ask yourself all the questions before you begin to speak. What a concept! Be proud of yourself. The first step to change is recognition.
