Affects on Brain from Swimming?

Dear Madeline

I have no idea if this is going to reach you. My daughter participated for the first time in the regional science fair in South Africa the past weekend. She got a bronze medal in the category grades 5 to 7. She is in grade 5.

Thanks for your ideas etc. because we certainly used it. She is now planning for the next science fair. We want to do something on the influence of exercise (like swimming) on brain capacity. (E.g. ability to remember etc). Do you know about any books I can order in this regard? It is rather difficult to get hold of literature here and there are many books on sale but you do not know whether it will really suit your need.

The contest will be posted on Sept 15 and you will receive a notice. Or you can contribute this one and then enter the new one.

As far as books are concerned, I really don’t know of a specific one.
Suggest you search the term, swimming effect on brain, effect of exercise on brain in Google.

You can also go to Amazon.com and see if they have any books.

Questions: Hi Madeline, I have an important question…My science fair project is due on Tuesday! How should I word my problem?…Does the color of a birdfeeder affect the amount of birdseed eaten by birds? OR Does the color of a birdfeeder effect the amount of birdseed eaten by birds? affect or effect? I just don’t know!! HELP!! Amy G.

Answer: it’s EFFECT in this instance.
The color of the bird feeder effects the amount of birdseed eaten by birds.
The effect of a colored bird feeder is to attract birds to the bird feeder.

Explanation: The majority of the time you will use AFFECT as a tr. verb or noun. Example: To have an influence on or effect a change in.

EFFECT is also a noun and is something brought about by a cause or agent; a result
Example: The drug had an immediate effect on the pain. The government’s action had no effect on the trade imbalance.

AFFECT means “to influence, impress1, touch, move, strike”
EFFECT means “the result”

Question: How are you today? I need to know do you have any science fair project kits on ROCK SLIDES for grade 9. Kenny

Answer: Have you considered doing a science fair project on how gravity contributes to rock slides?

Another possibility is to do a science fair project on how global warming is affecting the glacial slides along with the rocks that are embedded in them. This is called iceberg claving. You can read all about it on the Science News For Kids website.
