Why Dobsonian for Students?

Star Finders

Dobsonian Telescopes I interviewed several veteran astronomy teachers. When asked what are the best telescopes for elementary and high school students, the consensous was the The Dobsonian.

Caroline Bennett, a 20-year veteran teacher stated,

1) "The Dobsonian is an all-in-one unit; this means that there is no separate tripod to set-up. Elementary through high school students can simply carry it outside, set it on the ground and start viewing.

2). Also, without the tripod the manufacturer is able to give you more aperture for your dollar. The larger aperture gives you more objects to view with a lot more detail."

image of telescopes: star and constellation finder The Luminous Star Finder is shaped like a kaleidoscope. When the viewer has a microfiche star map that will show you the exact alignment of the stars.

    * Glows in the dark and helps make learning the constellations easy.

    * How a star positions for any date and includes a zodiac dial on the back side.

    * Grades 4 - 12.

A star clock and instructions guide is included.
