Dobsonian Telescopes I interviewed several veteran astronomy teachers. When asked what are the best telescopes for elementary and high school students, the consensous was the The Dobsonia.

Caroline Bennett, a 20-year veteran teacher stated,
1) "The Dobsonian is an all-in-one unit; this means that there is no separate tripod to set-up. Elementary through high school students can simply carry it outside, set it on the ground and start viewing.

2). Also, without the tripod the manufacturer is able to give you more aperture for your dollar. The larger aperture gives you more objects to view with a lot more detail."

StarFinders

Celestron SkyScout Personal Planetarium The Celestron SkyScout Personal Planetarium identifies celestial objects with just a click of a button! All you do is hold this device in your hand, point it at an object in the sky, and the SkyScout's advanced SGP technology locates over 6,000 constellations, planets, and stars from the programmed databases and provides scientific background information for each object.

Complete text and audio descriptions give you the history, facts and mythology of the most popular constellations and star. Information that was once only available thru a museum quality telescope is readibly accessable in your hand! Amazing! Read more by clicking on the above link.

image of telescopes: star and constellation finder The Luminous Star Finder is shaped like a kaleidoscope. When the viewer has a microfiche star map that will show you the exact alignment of the stars.
    * Glows in the dark and helps make learning the constellations easy.

    * How a star positions for any date and includes a zodiac dial on the back side.

    * Grades 4 - 12.
