Chicken egg science fair projects can be used to learn about gravity, force, engineering principals or chemistry principles. They can also be used to learn about genetics and cell structure. No matter what you are interested in, there is most likely zoology science experiments that use eggs that will help you explore that topic. In the following sections you will learn about sample projects you can complete a simple chicken egg.

Salmonella can contaminate an egg that hasn't been cracked. Food poisoning is a big health concern. In the past salmonella poisoning was a huge problem with chicken eggs that were not super fresh. Today we don't have the same contamination concerns, however, salmonella contamination still occurs. The first type of chicken egg science fair experiments that you can complete will examine how salmonella contaminates an egg and if the shell protect the content or not.

Vinegar can dissolve the shell of a raw chicken egg. This is a fun experiment that is also known as the Bouncing Egg Experiment. To complete this project you will soak a raw chicken egg in vinegar for about a day. After the shell has dissolved you can remove the rest of the egg with a spoon and place it on paper towels. This will remove the excess water and leave you with a rubbery, bouncy egg. What happened to the egg? If you left the egg in the vinegar longer, would it make the egg bouncier? Why or why not?

Another option that you have for chicken egg science fair experiments is to create an experiment around the hypothesis that boiled eggs spin better than raw eggs. In this experiment you will compare how spinable each type of egg is. Once you have your results explain what you learned. Then use this information to develop a more advanced project. For example, how can you modify a raw egg so that it spins better than the hard boiled egg?

The next biology science fair projects that you can develop around an egg is to determine how permeable an egg is. You can test to see if an egg is water permeable and if it is oil permeable. The independent variable in these experiments will be the use of water or oil and the dependent variable will be the egg's permeability.

All of the above projects are either basic or intermediate experiments. While you can win a science fair with these types of experiments you will have a lot more luck with an advanced project. An advanced project doesn't have to mean that you spend two years on the project, but what it does mean is that you have a project that takes an expanded look at your topic. You collect more data and/or your apply your findings to a problem that humanity is facing.
