I published this blogpost 10 years ago and wanted to see what happened as a result of the baby piglets being cloned in order to help a depressed tigress. Unfortunately, I found out that the story was strictly fiction. In those days, I did not know about looking up information on Snopes.
So why did I post this today? Because I think it is important to check out the facts before writing or printing something. As often happens, the original author probably saw some unusual, yet interesting, photos that did not have a byline (Now I am making an assumption!),and made up a story about the depressed tigress.
In a California zoo a mother tiger gave birth to triplet tiger cubs, which is very rare. Due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely. Because they were so tiny they died shortly after birth.
After her cubs died, the mother tiger suddenly started to decline in health although she was physically. The veterinarians guessed that she was depressed due to her litter’s death, so they decided that if the tigress could become a surrogate to another mother’s cubs she could get better.
The doctors searched for baby cubs all over the U.S. by contacting other zoos, but there were not tiger cubs that age that were available. The vet decided to try something that had never done before in a zoo environment…. he took the only orphans’ that could find …& a litter of weanling pigs. The vets and zoo keepers wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger. Guess what happened!
Take a look…
Now, please tell me one more time ………?
Why can’t the rest of the world get along?
