Science Fair Project Survey on Biodiversity

Biodiversity Science Fair Project Survey

See how the Science Fair Project Survey on Biodiversity brought awareness to 17 communities in India.

Group Leader: Vaibhav Khurana
Team Members: Name: Chetan, Mahima, Manas, Medha, Uttar
Pradesh, India
Focal theme: Biodiversity: Nurture Nature for a Better Future
Title: “Global Warming: A Threat To Life”

Reason Selecting the Topic
I have selected this topic because due to the increase in the temperature many climatic as well as social change has been seen and scientists have predicted that if it goes on like this then the earth will become a ball of fire and no life would be possible on the earth. So in order to save our earth and life I have selected this topic.

17 Places Where the Survey was Distributed
Roshanbagh, Atala, Attarsuiya, Kalyani Devi, Meerapur, Kareli, Baluaghat, Katra, Loknath, Naini, Jhonstanganj, Dariabad, Khuldabad, Shastrinagar, Rasoolpur, Tulsipur, and Lookergang.

Work Done
• Done 110 surveys in 17 localities
• Distributed pamphlets to reduce global warming
• Recycled waste material
• Successful in forming the chain of awareness programme
• Cfl were replaced with bulbs

Analysis before doing surveys
• 70% people were unaware & were careless about the prevention of global warming.
• 30% people were aware & were careful about the prevention of global warming.

Analysis after doing surveys
• 20% people were unaware &were careless about the prevention of global warming
• 80% people were aware & careful about the prevention of global warming.

About 60% of carbon-di-oxide has been added after 1950. at least one billion people in the world breathe unhealthy air and three million die annually due to air pollution.

As it is mainly caused due to the rise of carbon di-oxide and methane due to various reasons specially due to the advancement of science. Some of the reasons for the increase in global warming over the past years are:
➢ Burning of fossil fuels in automobiles, domestic cooking and heating.
➢ Power stations and industries (primarily the chemical, metal and paper industries)
➢ Emissions from agricultural machinery like tractors contribute to global warming.
➢ Animal husbandry also add to global warming as animals give out methane, a gas that leads to global warming. About 16% of methane released into the atmosphere comes from animals.

It has many effects on the biodiversity in which we all are included. Some of them are:
➢ The glaciers and many mountains are melting which may result in flood.
➢ Due to global warming many areas are likely to face droughts.
➢ Cyclones, earthquakes, hurricanes are acting with more strength.
➢ Many small islands are now likely to disappear with the increase in global warming.

Global warming cannot be stooped but definitely it can be controlled and by only some of the easy steps. Some of them are:
➢ Use cfl instead of a bulb.
➢ Plant more and more trees.
➢ Using natural gas instead of petrol and diesel for transportation.
➢ Use LPG instead of coal etc.
