Uses of Solar Energy

There are many uses of solar energy, and here a a few to think about if you want to do a solar energy science fair project. You may ask why is it important to have this information. Well, this year we were told that we have 20 years to clean up our air in order for our planet to be inhabitable. (Information really accelerates. This morning I wrote the above timeline of 20 years. Spoke to someone who was at the Evanston Climate Change rally led by public school students on September 20th and now the timeline to clean up our air is 11 years!)

So how can you contribute to make a difference because every person’s actions count. What footprint are you leaving?

  • Solar energy has many uses such as electricity production and heating of water through photovoltaic cells and directly for drying clothes.
  • Solar energy can also be used to heat swimming pools, power cars, for attic fans, calculators and other small appliances. It produces lighting for indoors or outdoors.

  • Solar Energy is becoming more and more popular. The worldwide demand for Solar Energy is currently greater than supply.
  • You can even cook food with solar energy.
